Much of the music class is performance oriented. Once the music symbols have been memorized there isn't too much homework. In-class participation is a large part of the grade. We will be learning to work as a choir, as a team. This includes learning physical control of the body: breathing, relaxation techniques, articulating and enunciating clearly, projecting the voice, communicating ideas as well as learning how to listen carefully.
At right is a drawing of our music teacher, Ms. Yonker, as drawn by her student, Raina.

Students are asked to come with an open mind toward learning how to improve their singing, music reading and performance skills. If one must say "I can't", then they must add "yet" to the end of that sentence. The skills learned by studying music are helpful in so many areas of life. To name a few:
- Self-expression and creative outlet
- Pleasure/enjoyment
- Self-discipline
- Commitment
- Independent thinking
- Teamwork
- Public speaking and effective communication
- Language development
- History
- Culture
- Math
- Physical and mental agility
