Welcome to Fifth Grade at St. Dennis
Reading Owl

Fifth grade is another crucial transition year. Children are beginning to mature more, both physically and emotionally. This is really a "gateway" year, as students prepare to take the skills and knowledge they have acquired in the primary and intermediate grades to new heights.

At right is a picture of our Fifth Grade teacher, Mrs. Dorn, as drawn by Jamie, one of her students.

Social Studies:

Parts of American history will be covered during fifth grade social studies. The children will also work on state reports during the first semester.

Thoughts from our Fifth Grade Teacher:
"...The classroom is an active place of learning where children are encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas. Children not only work on their own but also in groups where they can learn from each other.

"The classroom is a place where children can feel safe... Children will be better prepared and ready to learn if they feel secure about their surroundings.

"Above and beyond all will be the underlying theme of Christianity. Catholic beliefs will be intertwined throughout the curriculum and school day. Children will have constant reminders of what it means to be Catholic. This overall theme will be very apparent as you walk through the door."
