Faith Formation Curriculum

Kindergarten

  • Introduction to the stories, beliefs and celebrations of our Catholic faith
  • Come to know that they are loved by God and that Jesus is the Son of God
  • Learn what it means to be a part of a community through family, school, and their church
  • Learn to pray

Grade 1

  • Lectionary based program with the emphasis on the Gospel as our promise
  • Weekly lessons on love complimented by a workbook of basic church teachings
  • Learn to know that God always keeps his promise and that we can trust God and Jesus
  • Focus on the call to know, to love, and to serve God and others
  • Identify the Sacraments
  • Learn the Sacrament of Baptism – the meaning of the water and celebration of the welcoming into the Christian family as followers of Jesus

Grade 2

Emphasis on Sacramental preparation for:
  • The Sacrament of Reconciliation-experience for the first time and learn it is an opportunity to say we are sorry (recite an Act of Contrition) and to receive God’s love and forgiveness
  • The Sacrament of Holy Eucharist- receive for the first time at their First Communion Celebration and see it as in action in which we fully receive the real presence of Jesus and remember His life, death and resurrection

Grade 3

  • Lectionary based program with the emphasis on the Good news as the Gospel of Jesus. This is supported by a workbook of Church doctrine.
  • See Church as the people of God – a welcoming Church and one of service and commitment
  • Continue to learn about choices, forgiveness, and God’s love
  • Continue to study the Commandments as God’s law and the Beatitudes as the laws of love
  • Pray the Rosary
  • Introduction to the Gospels

Intermediate (Grades 4-5)

  • Lectionary based – focuses on the Sunday liturgical readings
  • Children relate the Sunday readings to their own lives
  • Come to a deeper appreciation and understanding of participation in the Eucharistic liturgy
  • Continue experiences of service to their families, church, and larger community through the Corporal and Spiritual works of mercy
  • Children are given their own Bibles and experience how to use the Bibles by finding books, chapters, and verses

Middle School

Catholic Connections Program – A Parish religious education program for 6-8th grade.
  • Focus this year is Catholic Social Teaching and The Sacraments.
  • Aim is to strengthen their Catholic identity and inspire them to participate more fully in the Church’s mission
  • They are able to make connections between their Catholic faith and every day life
